HRC implemented its Flash Flood Guidance System (FFGS) technology for the Vietnam Institute of Meteorology, Hydrology, and Climate Change (IMHEN) in Hanoi, Viet Nam.  HRC adapted the Flash Flood Guidance System) to support flash flood warnings in Viet Nam.  The systems were adapted for the specific operational conditions in Viet Nam and were applied with an average sub-basin area of 10 km2 for the Central and Central High Land regions and an average sub-basin area of 20-30 km2 for  flash-flood prone areas in the remaining areas of Vietnam.  HRC developed two computational systems for flash flood guidance – An Operational FFGS for Vietnam using real-time precipitation information which allows changes in the parametric files and which accepts real-time forecasts from a single numerical weather prediction model and an Analysis FFGS appropriate for offline sensitivity studies by IMHEN.  Each FFGS (Operational and Analysis) are installed onto independent Linux hosts procured and purchased by the IMHEN.  HRC also organized training, technology-transfer and capacity-building activities related to FFGS operations in Viet Nam.
