The Hydrologic Research Center is working with the U.S. Agency for International Development/Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance to provide hydrometeorological expertise to work closely with the Myanmar Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH) leadership to support decision making about priorities; ensure that the best choices are made in terms of integrated new equipment systems; help complete a single, coherent and defensible overall plan including securing support for the plan from other donors; identify gaps in service or equipment needs, and identify training needs. This assistance to the DMH will focus on providing support specifically to mentor and train the DMH in their meteorological operations such as Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP), forecasting, nowcasting, radar applications and end-to-end warning system development and warning dissemination and to guide DMH in a phased implementation to build viable operational capacities within their financial and technical capabilities.
