Investigating the Use of NASA Products to Improve the Performance of Regional Operational Flash Flood Guidance Systems Worldwide

Project Overview
Location: Turkey, South East Asia
Sponsors: NASA

This project aims to improve operational flash flood warning and response by National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs) and Response Agencies worldwide.  The Earth observations from NASA satellites Aqua and Terra and the NOAA GOES satellite were used in a feasibility study to improve the estimation of the snow line in the Black Sea and Middle East region (BSMEFFG system), and improve the estimation of standing water (and hence soil moisture deficit) during the flood season in the Southeast Asia region of the Mekong River (MRCFFG system). For both feasibility study applications,  science papers were submitted by HRC to refereed journals for publication.
