The Hydrologic Research Center (HRC) conducted a 3-week training course on Radar Hydrology for participants from the Fiji Meteorological Service (FMS) from August 19 through September 6, 2019. The objectives of the training course were (a) to give technical background on weather radar systems and their use for precipitation estimation, (b) to provide practical, hands-on training on methods for analyzing radar precipitation data to provide quantitative input for hydrologic applications, and (c) to provide insight with respect to the impact on the uncertainty of the radar precipitation estimates on hydrologic assessments, with particular focus on the Flash Flood Guidance System (FijiFFGS) hydrologic products. The training was designed for operational flash flood and flood forecasters who regularly use weather radar for quantitative precipitation estimates, and other radar analysts involved in the application of radar precipitation data.
