HRC Supports World Meteorological Organization Data Conference

HRC contributed a poster presentation at the recent Data Conference organized by the World Meteorological Organization.  The virtual conference was held from 16-19 November 2020 with HRC’s presentation on the 18th.  HRC’s poster was titled: DATA NEEDS AND REALIZABLE EXCHANGE STRATEGIES ON GLOBAL SCALES FOR HIGH-RESOLUTION OPERATIONAL LAND SURFACE FORECASTS.  The authors included K.P. Georgakakos, T.M. Modrick-Hansen, E. Shamir, Z. Cheng, J. Sperfslage, C. Spencer, and R. Banks, all from HRC.

The poster overviewed HRC’s experience of over two decades of implementations of the operational Flash Flood Guidance System worldwide and provided the message that there is need to incentivize data owners to share data and to maintain and improve data quality by setting clear standards. Data quality control sub-systems and system products with increased data value are catalysts.

The poster is available here.
